The ballpark is ready, 22,000 tickets are sold for the four days and everybody is eager to kick off the Baseball World Cup in Regensburg on Wednesday. After a 30-minute opening ceremony Germany will open against China at 7pm CET. At the first press conference on Tuesday, head coach Greg Frady and pitcher/outfielder Rodney Gessmann were optimistic before the first game.
Frady also announced that Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez of the Solingen Alligators will begin the opener. Additionally he said that Simon Guehring is healthy enough to play the outfield, just a few weeks after a heel injury in July.
Not much is known about opponent China. They arrived on Monday and practiced for the first time at the Armin Wolf Arena on Tuesday afternoon. The amateur squad is coming off a fourth place at the Asian Baseball Championship to Regensburg.
