Gophers walk away with Win in 1st Duel with Berlin

Pulheim takes game one of relegation series

Last Saturday the relegation series for a spot in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga started. The Gophers won game one of the best-of-three series 6-5 at home against the Sluggers thanks to a walk-off RBI single by player/coach Christopher Gentles in the bottom of the ninth. Merlin Mendel had tied the contest moments earlier. The 16-year-old Sebastian Theobald pitched seven strong innings for Pulheim, allowing just three runs. Game two and eventual three will be played next Saturday in Berlin.
